Fuerteventura sand dunes!

Shouldering the African Sahara, Fuerteventura is the second largest Canary Islands and one that enjoys the very best of year-round climates and distinctive blue and golden coastlines. With it’s little sister Lanzarote, within view, a short ferry crossing can take you to see the contrast from stunningly magnificent, desert like, landscape on Fuerteventura to the scored volcanic island of Lanzarote.

The towering sand dunes dominating the north of Fuerteventura and the long, calm, golden beaches in the south are a result of the Saharan sands that blow in from Africa just 62 miles away. The calm, clear, sapphire sea on the eastern side contrasts with the famous windsurfing beaches on the western side of the island.
The Annual World Windsurfing championships are held at Playa de Sotavento, 28kms of golden beaches. Adjacent to the main resort of Corralejo in the north is the Parque Natural, the single most impressive area of Sahara dunes stretching 10kms along the coast and 2-3kms inland from the shore.

Fuerteventura windsurfing

There is plenty to do and see on Fuerteventura, everyone should have a go at windsurfing, but for those looking for something a little less active there is snorkeling.  Other activities include golf, water skiing, horse riding, quad biking, jeep safari trips,  Jandia Nature Reserve, a visit to Tefia, a fascinating insight into Fuerteventuras past and of course indulge yourself by sampling  some of the finest restaurants on the island.
