Puerto Calero: This beautiful harbour resort with it's own yacht marina is situated approx 5kms outside Puerto del Carmen and boasts a tranquil harbour lined with a limited choice of exclusive bars, shops and restaurants. Beaches Puerto Calero does not have it’s own beach the nearest ones are at Puerto Del Carmen.The main town beach in Puerto del Carmen is called Playa Grande and is a broad stretch of black sand running for over 3kms along the Avenida de las Playas. There are two other beaches in Puerto del Carmen one called Playa Blanca which is over a km in length and has clear waters which are safe for family bathing and the other is Playa de Los Pocillos which is a good beach for windsurfing from. Beyond the beaches is the swish marina of Puerto Calero which offers boat, submarine and yacht excursions. Eating Out For such a small resort, there are a good number of excellent restaurants in Puerto Calero, to suit a variety of budgets and tastes. Mainly along the quayside it is the perfect location to relax at lunch time or over an evening meal. A wider choice of restaurants can be found at Puerto del Carmern.A speciality of Canarian cuisine is "papas arrugadas con mojo", little "wrinkly potatoes" with "mojo verde" (green garlic sauce) or "mojo rojo", also called "mojo picón" (red garlic sauce, very spicy). Another well-loved sew is "rancho canario", consisting of garbanzos (chick-peas), noodles and potatoes, together with bacon fat, beef and chicken. Leisure Lanzarote is perfect for windsurfing, swimming, diving, surfing, and fishing. In Puerto del Carmen there are numerous diving schools, deep sea fishing excursions, jet ski hire, parasailing and much more. Also in the resort there are professional gyms providing sporting facilities including squash and tennis Places to Visit Timanfaya National Park is a must-see for any visitor to Lanzarote. The Volcanic Landscape and Craters, as well as the 'El Diablo' Restaurant where traditional Canarian food is cooked in a natural volcanic oven is a definite must see. The Cave of Los Verdes forms part of a spectacular and complex system of caves formed by underground Lava flows. El Golfo and Los Hervideros El Golfo is a volcanic crater filled by sea water. Los Hervideros is a series of caves and blow holes located in a Lava Flow.The Cactus Garden The Cactus Garden was created by local artist, Cesar Manrique, and features an impressive collection of sculptures and a restored Windmill. Castillo de San Gabriel The Castillo de San Gabriel is a 16th Century fortress overlooking Arrecife Harbour. |
