The lively resorts of Cala’n Blanes and Cala’n Bruc are located just 2 kms West of the old Capital of Menorca, Ciutadella, and are approximately 1 hour drive from Mahon. There is a good bus connection into Ciutadella, and it is possible to take a leisurely mini-train ride around the resorts during the day and early evening Beaches Cala’n Blanes has a pretty, small sandy cove with crystal clear waters and is probably considered to be one of the best on the rugged West Coast of Menorca. Along the deep inlet of Cala’n Bruc concreted platforms have been created for those who prefer not to bathe beside the beach. Also within walking distance are the attractive coves of Cala’n Forcat and Calas Picas. Eating Out The possibilities for eating out in this area are endless, with a myriad choice of bars and restaurants to cater for every taste and budget. For an excellent fish meal, head off to the Harbour at nearby Ciutadella and while away the evening hours admiring the stylish yachts! Leisure The beach at Cala’n Blanes caters for all members of the family, offering sun beds and parasols for hire, beach bar and pedaloes for the children. There are play parks and bouncy castles, and even a small water park (for young children). Weekly evening Trotting Races are held at the circuit in Cala’n Forcat, and it is possible to take boat trips from Ciutadella Harbour. Ciutadella also boasts stylish shopping opportunities, with an eclectic mix of designer and artisan shops, and a traditional market on Fridays and Saturdays. Places to Visit Whilst the beauty of Menorca lies in its stupendous choice of natural, unspoilt beaches, there are also many places of interest to visit. Spend time in the charming squares and alleys of the historic centre of Ciutadella, and if you are lucky enough to be in the town for its Fiesta of San Juan held each year towards the end of June, this is a spectacular sight with Horses in the streets and Firework Displays. Head across the Island via the three main towns of Ferreries, Es Mercadal and Alaior, to the Capital of Mahon with its magnificent natural harbour, the second largest in the World, and also home to the famous Xoriguer Gin Distillery. Menorca is rich in archealogical sites, many being open to the public, and the nearest being Naveta des Tudons. |
