Apart from relaxing on the soft, white sandy beaches
or swimming in the gin clear seas around the island
of Mallorca there is plenty of things to do and the
island can be explored in many ways. Our top six
places of interest are as follows:
Take the train from Palma to Soller – The
journey takes just over an hour and it used to be
the route for transporting the lemon and orange
crops from one port to another but today it has been
transformed into a stunning tourist route with
tickets as little as €17 return.
Palma Cathedral
– This very impressive cathedral dates back to the
14th century and is a most imposing
building with Gothic buttresses that glisten in the
sun. Entrance is from just €4 pp.
Formentor
– A
visit to Formentor is a must for all visitors to
Mallorca, situated just outside Puerto Pollensa the
cliffs that jut out into the sea are up to 400m high
and you can stand right on the edge and take in the
spectacular views!
Caves
of Drac
– (Caves of the Dragon) probably the most famous
tourist attraction on the island, consisting of 12
chambers of dramatic limestone formations. A walk
through the caves ends in the fantastic Lago de
Martel, a beautiful underground lake where you can
sit and relax listening to a lakeside concert!
Pearl Factory
– Mallorca pearls have been manufactured on the
island since the 19th Century and are
recognized worldwide for the perfection of the faux
pearls. The factory can be visited at Manacor with
the opportunity to purchase from their shop.
Palma
Aquarium –
A spectacular marine park offering a fascinating
trip through the oceans of the world. There are 55
aquariums showing an exceptional diversity of flora
and fauna of the Med, Indian, Atlantic and Pacific
oceans. A total of 8000 animals and 700 species in
