If last years figures are
anything to go by, an estimated 3 million people
will defy the credit crunch and swap their British
Christmas dinner for a seasonal holiday overseas,
consuming paella, jerk chicken or falafel with UK
airports predicting as busy a Festive period as
ever.
With Christmas day falling on a
Friday, most will opt for a mid-week flight for a
one week holiday to warmer resorts such as the
Canary islands, Caribbean and Dubai whilst others
will take advantage of a weekend break, leaving on
Boxing day, and returning on the 29th to
destinations such as Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam and
even New York.
Ski operators are predicting
the credit crunch will not prevent the avid skiers
from flocking to the slopes for their short and
long-term breaks over the holiday period.
With many tour operators
cutting their capacity Christmas holidays are now
few and far between with early bookers having taken
advantage of the best discounts. This is a trend,
it is thought, that will follow suit for the Summer
holiday market.
