FEAST OF FIESTAS IN MALLORCA

Spain is well know for its fiestas and Mallorca is no exception with the Islanders celebrating National Holidays in style and even have a few traditions of their own!  Not all are based upon religion, many have their roots in pagan traditions and there is always an emphasis on food!  Most are celebrated with exhibitions, local dancers, singers, all in traditional costumes, and large parades through the streets followed by spectacular firework displays.

July is a busy month for the locals and below are some of the events you may wish to join  in:

Pollensa

15 July                    Sea-land procession in honour of Patron Saint of Seafarers and Fishermen, firework opening

16 July                    Feste de la Verge del Carmen, Municipal Swimming even in the Port for children 3-12

21.00h Traditional music group Corda Amarada and the “Ball de Bot” dancing school

18 July                    19.00h Children’s games. Trampoline, Inflatable castle, Children’s disco, Foam festival

19 July                    22.00h Concert: Oasis Rosa de Lima Orchestra  Location: Plaça Miquel Capllonch
22.00h Party on the Beach at La Gola

20 July                    18.30h Solemn mass   Location: Church of Our Lady of Carmen
Followed by a procession to the marina with the images of St Peter and the Virgen del Carmen accompanied by the Pollensa Music Band   22.30h Batucada – samba/reggae percussion group leading a torch-lit parade through the streets with the Dimonis Ka de Bou (demons)   24.00 Firework spectacular to end the fiesta on the beach by La Gola

26/7 – 2 Aug         Patrona de Pollensa 2008   Daily festivities in preparation for Moors and Christians 'battle' on 2-Aug.

15 Aug                   Ascension Day – Public Holiday

Alcudia

25-29 June             Sant Pere Patron Saint of Sailors, sea-land procession, culminating with fireworks

24 Aug                   Festival of Chinese Lanterns  the youngest of the town will go through the streets and sing old Majorcan songs carrying their chinese lanterns made of melons.
