The small, unhurried town of Sao Bras, with it’s
streets of white houses whose ranks are broken only
by the church belltower which overlooks the
surrounding hills, comes to life and attracts
visitors from all around the Algarve to celebrate
Easter with a colorful parade on the Sunday. The
streets are decorated and paved with fresh flowers
and a Torch Procession takes place through the
streets.
The traditions of Torches made from flowers which
are carried by men who run through the streets was
traditionally started in Sao Bras but is now echoed
in many other Portuguese villages and towns at
Easter.
After the procession you can wander through the
flower strews streets and stop off at one of the
many café’s or local restaurants or meander back
home through the picturesque countryside which is
stunning at this time of the year and you can expect
temperatures to be between
17°C to 20°C.
